4 Easy Nutrition Tips to Help Maximize Your Summer Workouts

The summer heat is in FULL effect and the grind doesn’t stop. Whether you’re at your local box, in your garage gym or out at the track running sprints here are a few tips to help maximize your workout while beating the heat.

 

WATER

Good ole fashion H2O.  The stuff never fails. It’s so important that your body is made up of 60% of it.  Drink half your bodyweight in ounces throughout the day instead of right before your workout. Dehydration can be a detriment to your health so stay hydrated

 

FRUITS AND VEGGIES

A good balance of fruits and vegetables are a necessity to the diet.  Most are a very water rich which will provide hydration but also they contain vitamins, minerals, and electrolytes to keep you moving and grooving during your workout. Oranges and bananas are rich in potassium which helps prevent muscle cramping.

ELECTROLYTE/SPORTS DRINKS

Gatorade/Powerade/Pedialyte

V8 Juice

All contain electrolytes.  Try mixing water in with these to taper off excess sugar.

 

EAT!

Whether you’re putting on mass or leaning up to hit the beach the body needs fuel to go!  Skipping meals and putting yourself in too deep of a caloric deficit while training in high temps could take a negative toll on your end result.  You’d be surprised what a quick protein shake and a banana will do an hour before a workout vs skipping a meal.

 

Training in the summer time is like no other.  The sweat pours and you feel extra accomplished for enduring the beast that is the heat, but remember to take care of the body and the body will take care of you. Stay cool!
