Into The Danger Zone with Dionna Budd

By: 0

3-2-1 and we have lift-off. ┬áCome with me as we land in the world of one of Spectra’s most eclectic athletes, Dionna Budd as we find out what makes her tick.

DS:Where are you from?
DB:New York by way of Florida (Altamonte Springs), Virginia (Chesapeake), and Texas (Katy)

DS:What is something very few at the box know about you?
DB:I want to go shark diving off of the coast of South Africa!

DS:What’s your athletic background?
DB:As a child, I cheered, played soccer, and danced (tap mostly). I ran cross country and tap danced in high school.

DS:How did you find Spectra CrossFit?
DB:I think I found it on Groupon.

DS:What do you like most about our box?
DB:I like that Spectra truly is a community. No one ever makes anyone else feel inferior. We push each other to finish. I like Khizer’s attention to detail and patience. He coaches everyone differently based on their personalities. I like that during WODs you set ridiculously high expectations for me, and sometimes, I reach them. They’re usually goals I would never set for myself, but they give something to work towards.

DS:What was the worst WOD you’ve ever done?
DB:I can’t think of a definite worst WOD. But I remember doing a modified Murph during my first couple of weeks of CrossFit. I hated it. It hated me.

DS:What’s your favorite movement?
DB:Deadlift! I also like that burpees give you so much bang for your buck!

DS:Least favorite movement?
DB:I’ve always hated wall ball shots

DS:Favorite workout song?
DB:One that I love and I’m not ashamed of is Primadonna by Marina and The Diamonds. But generally, the more ratchet the better when it comes to workout music.

DS:Favorite clothing brand?
DB:I love Ann Taylor and New York and Company. But I’m most comfortable in leggings and a tee. You can find me in Lululemon or Nike leggings and a Spectra tee on most of my days off.

DS:What’s your favorite cheat meal?
DB:I love burgers. Greek with lamb, feta, spinach, sundried tomatoes and tzatziki with sweet potato fries dipped in aioli and a glass of wine (Malbec). For dessert, a vanilla malt.

DS:The tattoo on your shoulder blade, what’s the story behind it?
DB:It says hope with the ‘p’ represented as a pink ribbon. It’s for my grandmother. She beat breast cancer. Really, it’s for anyone who had to fight breast cancer.

DS:You rock a low haircut, what lead to that decision?
DB:I’ve always hated hair. I hated getting my hair done as a child, and I hated having to do it or get it done as an adult. It was the logical choice. I’m just glad I don’t have a lumpy head. Plus, it looks badass! (See Demi Moore in GI Jane, Charlize Theron in Mad Max: Fury Road, Natalie Portman in V for Vendetta)

DS:If you could have any superpower what would it be?
DB:I can’t decide if I want to read minds or be able to control people. I want to know everything, but I’m also extremely bossy. And life would be so much easier if I didn’t actually have to convince (or coerce) people to do what I want them to. I could just command people to tell me what’s on their minds!
